The story of YourWork begins in 2016. Our founder Nicole Nestler was working as general manager of a personnel service provider in plant engineering. Recruiting new employees took up a large part of her work and proved to be difficult. A lot of time and money went into recruiting skilled workers, and yet the vast number of ads placed on the usual job portals did not yield the desired results:
“At one point, I came up with the idea of setting up our own employment agency in the form of a social network where job seekers, but also companies, can introduce themselves directly. It quickly became clear that this solution was not only interesting for our company, but for the entire industry.” In this article, Nicole reports on other challenges she faced at the time, as well as the opportunities she discovered for the job market that needed to be seized.
Like many other companies, we noticed at that time that fewer and fewer young people wanted to learn a craft or practical profession. If you ask today, the career aspiration ‘Influencer’ is at the top of the list for many young people. So it’s difficult to get them interested in an apprenticeship. At the same time, there are countless channels to apply for vacancies or look for a new job. In Germany alone, there are more than 2,000 job portals. If you want to be visible as a company on as many platforms as possible, you have to spend a lot of money. Even if suitable people are currently looking for a job, chance determines whether the job seekers are looking on the same platform as the companies.
In my experience, applicants from the crafts and construction sectors are reluctant to write resumes and application texts. In case of doubt, this does not create a sufficiently good impression at first glance. Perhaps the perfect applicant was already in the pile of rejections?
I asked myself how companies can attract a large number of good employees in the future. How can employees and employers get to know each other better before the interview? With this question, the idea of YourWork was born – the social network for work that is valuable.
As the founder, it was especially important to me to connect people through the work they love. On YourWork, anyone can create a profile, post pictures or videos of work they have created themselves, and exchange ideas with others about it. Companies also present themselves and their job offers in this way.
This makes boring text job ads passé. Applicants can apply directly with a video for a job. This gives both sides a first personal impression of each other, which is essential for the start of a good collaboration.
“With the social network YourWork, I would like to enrich and promote the exchange between practical and manual workers.
The platform is not only intended for those who offer or are looking for a job. Rather, everyone is invited to present their skills and work or to place orders. Private people often need handyman support as well, for example when building a house, gardening or fixing a dripping faucet. YourWork brings the right people together.”
